Must Try: Taco Zone

If you drive around the eastern neighborhoods of Los Angeles at night, you will notice small crowds gathered around trucks decorated with hand-painted signs advertising the type of food they offer.  Most are tacos, and most are good, but the best is Taco Zone.  Suadero is the specialty at Taco Zone but everything is incredible.  Plan to eat standing up, at the truck, these babies just aren't the same once you get home.
Cash only but eat like a king for under ten dollars.

The King of burritos

Although burritos are not authentic to Mexico, they are authentic to California, and if you want to try the best, head over to Burrito King.  Order the green chili burrito or the carne asada at the window and wash it down with a horchata.  Yum!

You will need your coffee

Though we are lucky to have lots of good Fair Trade and organic coffee nearby, Chicago coffee transplant Intelligentsia, is the best.

Lets begin with what's important, ICE CREAM!

Scoops is our favorite ice cream parlor in Los Angeles, and it's close to home!  Whether you choose a scoop of foie gras, ricotta basil, or salty chocolate, you can taste all you like, everything is made fresh daily.

The Standard alternative

If you prefer simpler accommodations here are some suggestions.  According to my most recent research, these options were a little less than half the price of The Standard:

Comfort Inn, near our home, on the Echo Park/Silverlake border.  This option is about 10-15 minutes away from downtown, but within walking distance of our house as well as lots of amazing shops and restaurants.  The Echo Park/Silverlake neighborhoods are trendy and fun.

Hotel Figueroa, downtown Los Angeles.  Moroccan-themed hotel with a lovely pool and lounge area.  10-15 minuted from the Echo Park/Silverlake area, where we live.  Near The Standard, though not within walking distance.

This "just" in!

The rooms at The Standard are filling up quickly so they have gone ahead and added more to our block.  Yippee!
